Why Shouldn't It Be Easy?
Ever heard the phrase, “Nothing in life worth having comes easy?”
Have you ever stopped to question why that should be the case? Or why we’re so quick to buy into it?
But I just don’t believe that this is true. In fact, I often see in many of my clients that their most valuable skills and assets are the ones that come naturally to them, the ones that they dismiss because they’re “too easy”.
In fact I would go so far as to argue, that because of limiting beliefs like the above statement, we not only dismiss and de-value our natural strengths and skills, but actively seek out overly complicated strategies to achieve our goals as a way to feel better about them. We make it harder than it needs to be, because that makes us feel better somehow about pursuing our goals (or about what our goals are).
I think we can choose to make things as easy or as hard as we want them to be. We can choose the path of least resistance, choose to pick a direct route to our destination, or we can choose to take the scenic route, get distracted by detours, or pick strategies that are way out of our comfort zone and skill set.
And often these choices are not conscious - our beliefs can be deep-routed, and until we start to question the actions we’re taking and the results we’re producing we may not even be aware that we’re making them.
The reality is that business is simple. Or perhaps a better phrase would be that business can be simple. It’s so easy to get bogged down with the hundreds of marketing strategies available to us, that we forget what is at it’s core the most basic of business development strategies – figure out who you want to work with, contact them to get in front of them, demonstrate how you add massive value and ask for the sale.
It. Really. Can. Be. That. Simple.
I’ve helped many clients to switch their focus to this very easy strategy and see 50-100% growth in their business over just a few short months.
If you want to create a multi-layered marketing strategy, be my guest. I don’t doubt that each of those strategies will add value. But don’t forget that at the end of it all it still comes back to – get in front of the client, demonstrate your value and ask for the sale.
For many of us running small, service businesses, we’re not looking for thousands of clients. We couldn’t handle thousands of clients! We want maybe 25-50 awesome clients.
What if I told you that in just a couple of short months you could have a full client roster of awesome clients, and all it would take is a few hours a week to achieve it? For many of us, that is a very real possibility, all we’d have to do is reach out to the right people – no hours of creating content, no traipsing to hundreds of networking events, no magic Instagram trick.
So why don’t we stop over-complicating things, and start choosing to believe that things could be easier.
