Have you discovered Hygge? No that’s not a typo!
For those who haven’t yet come across is Hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) is a Danish word to describe a special feeling or moment that is charming, cosy and special. It stems from the Danes long, dark, cold winters and a need to create special moments in the ordinary, every day.
It’s become a very popular concept over the past couple of years, so chances are you’ve already come across it, but what I love about Hygge is that it represents a great way to be present, to switch off from work and technology, and to create an environment in which you rest and recharge – all concepts I often talk about with clients.
The great thing about Hygge is there’s no right way, or wrong way, to do it. It’s about creating a feeling, that cozy and relaxed feeling, and the way each person does that will be individual to them.
Some simple actions, such as lighting some scented candles, or snuggling up in a cosy armchair with some warm socks and a mug of tea, can be the perfect way to unwind and relax at the end of a working day, and help you to rest, recharge and rejuvenate, especially at this time of year when cosyness becomes top of most peoples agenda.
So as the nights are really drawing in, now’s the perfect time to try getting Hygge – so go get yourself some fluffy socks and a cosy blanket, light some candles, and hunker down for a cosy and relaxing evening.
